Scholarship Description: This is an exciting opportunity for a well-trained and innovative bioinformatician to develop a programme of work in cardiovascular disease. The position is based within the King’s British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence at the Denmark Hill Campus of King’s College London. The Centre has new well-equipped laboratories and its own state-of-the-art proteomics facility. Large-scale proteomics data are available for all major cardiovascular pathologies.By diverging from the current single molecule-based reductionist approaches, the aim is to develop new approaches to diagnose, prevent and treat cardiovascular disease, acting at a pathway rather than a single molecule level. Bioinformatic data integration across different ‘omics platforms (genome wide transcripts, microRNA arrays, proteomics, metabolomics) will be central in the generation of multi-scale biomarkers and the delineation of molecular pathways that determine occurrence and/or progression of disease. Novel concepts emerging from integrative modelling of data obtained from pre-clinical models and clinical specimen will then be validated experimentally.
What it Covers: The appointment will be made at Grade 6, currently £31,020 per annum, plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance.
