มหาวิทยาลัย Sussex เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยที่ทีชื่อเสียงทางด้านการวิจัย ซึ่งได้รับการยอมรับจาก Research Assessment Exercise ในปี 2008 โดยกว่า 90 % ของผลงานการวิจัยได้รับการยอมรับในระดับโลกในด้านการเป็นผู้นำการวิจัยของโลก ทั้งผลงานในระดับนานาชาติยอดเยี่ยม และการเป็นที่ยอมรับของชาติต่างๆทั่งโลก รวมถึงการเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำ 1 ใน 30 อันดับของมหาวิทยาลัยวิจัยในสหราชอาณาจักร
