Simon Fraser University, the Office of the Vice-President, Research is offering research award program entitled “Vice-President, Research Undergraduate Student Research Awards”(VPR USRA) on a full time or part-time basis. The program is for pursuing research in the departments of social sciences and humanities at the University. These awards are available for undergraduate students. The value of each award is $4,500 and part-time VPR USRA is $2,250 paid over the minimum 16-week period.

Eligibility: -VPR USRA awards are available to students who wish to work with a faculty member who holds a major grant, but not necessarily from SSHRC or CIHR. Current SFU International students may also apply.
-Full-time awards are available to undergraduate students not enrolled in any courses during the academic term in which the award will be held.
-Part-time awards are available to undergraduate students enrolled in no more than two courses during the academic term(s) in which the award will be held.
-VPR USRA Social Sciences and Humanities applicants must:
(a)be registered in classes at SFU in the term immediately prior to holding the award (students holding the award in the fall term are exempt from this rule)
(b)have obtained, over the previous year of study, a CGPA of at least 2.67
(c)not have held more than 3 VPR USRA previously
(d)hold the award for a minimum 16 week duration
Scholarship Open for International Students: The students of Canada can apply for the award. Current SFU International students may also apply.
Scholarship Description: SFU’s Vice-President Research has provided funding for an award program entitled “Vice-President, Research Undergraduate Student Research Awards” (VPR USRA) for the social sciences and humanities departments at Simon Fraser University. Eligible applicants must work a minimum of 16 weeks under the supervision of a faculty supervisor who currently holds a Research Grant. Awards can be held on a full-time or part-time basis and are offered on a first come, first serve basis. SFU’s Vice-President, Research (VPR), will be supporting an approximately 58 additional undergraduate students who are working with faculty members who hold research grants (independent of source) through the VPR USRA program. There are two VPR USRA programs; one for the Sciences and one for the Social Sciences and Humanities.
Duration of award(s): The scholarships are awarded for a minimum of 16-week period.
What does it cover? -The value of a full-time VPR USRA is $4,500, paid over the minimum 16-week period. Simon Fraser University requires that all students holding USRAs receive an additional minimum supplement at the departmental level of at least $1,240 (over the 16-week period). (The university emphasize that this mandatory supplement is a minimum value; any supplement above this level may be set at the department’s discretion).
-The value of a part-time VPR USRA is $2,250 paid over the minimum 16-week period. Part-time VPR USRA recipients must receive a ‘salary supplement’ of $620.00 from the faculty supervisor’s research grant (This is the minimum supplement required; any supplement above this level may be set at the faculty supervisor’s discretion).
Selection Criteria: Awards are offered on a first come, first serve basis.
Notification: Students will be notified of the results of the current competition between March 1 and March 9th.
How to Apply: Students should complete the application form, print it and attach copies of transcripts. They must email or meet with their proposed supervisor to complete the second section of the application form. Complete application should be submitted in paper copy only, directly to the Dean of Graduate Studies Office. DGS will review the eligibility of all applicants and send the applications to the VPR Office for approval before offering the awards.Students must complete the Award Acceptance Form and return it to DGS within three weeks of the award offer.
