Bangkok day. 25 September 2555- European Union Delegation to Thailand, Khon Kaen University, organized a debate with European Union Thailand National Inter-varsity Debate Championship at the time. 8 The English Debate Competition is a competition for high school and university students, the largest in Thailand. 16 October 14.00 น. - 16,30 น. Competition this year. 7 ปีที่ผ่านมาถึงสองประการด้วยกัน อันดับแรกคือ การแข่งขันในปีนี้อยู่ภายใต้พระราชูปภัมภ์ของสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาสยามบรมราชกุมารี ประการที่สองสถานที่จัดงานในปีก่อน ๆ นั้นล้วนแล้วแต่จัดขึ้นในกรุงเทพมหานคร ทั้งที่มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ และมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ทว่าในปีนี้ การแข่งขันรอบสุดท้ายจะจัดขึ้นที่มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ซึ่งเป็นครั้งแรกที่จัดขึ้นนอกกรุงเทพมหานคร
สหภาพยุโรปให้การสนับสนุนเยาวชนไทยให้มีพื้นที่ในการฝึกฝนทักษะการคิดวิเคราะห์ และการโต้วาทีผ่านทางการสนับสนุนการจัดการแข่งขันการโต้วาทีนี้เอง ในขณะเดียวกันก็เป็นการเผยแพร่ความตระหนักและความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับสหภาพยุโรปและลำดับความสำคัญของนโยบายต่าง ๆ ของสหภาพยุโรป การแข่งขันในปีนี้นักเรียนนักศึกษาชาวไทยจะเสนอหัวข้อในการโต้วาทีจากนโยบายของอียูในด้านต่าง ๆ เช่น การเมืองและประชาธิปไตย การเงินและเศรษฐกิจ สิ่งแวดล้อม วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี เพศ การกีดกันทางสังคมและความแตกต่าง สิทธิมนุษยชนและกฎหมาย และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ เป็นต้น หัวข้อที่ใช้ในการโต้วาทีในรอบชิงชนะเลิศในปีนี้จะถูกเลือกจากหัวข้อที่นักเรียนนักศึกษาเสนอมา ทั้งนี้เพื่อเป็นการเน้นย้ำว่าการจัดโต้วาที EU Thailand National Inter-varsity Debate Championship นี้มีนักเรียนและนักศึกษาเป็นผู้ริเริ่มในการดำเนินการและเน้นการมีส่วนร่วมของนักเรียนนักศึกษาอีกด้วย
Always 7 ปีที่ผ่านมา การแข่งขันโต้วาที European Union Thailand National Inter-varsity Debate Championship มีผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันกว่า 300 คน จากทั่วทุกภูมิภาคของประเทศไทย เป็นกิจกรรมที่จัดขึ้นโดยการนำร่องและความร่วมมือของชมรมโต้วาทีภาษาอังกฤษของสถาบันศึกษาต่าง ๆ ในประเทศไทย ทั้งนี้ สหภาพยุโรปได้รับความร่วมมือจากมหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำหลายแห่งของไทยในการจัดกิจกรรมนี้ตลอดมาซึ่งได้แก่ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ วิทยาลัยนานาชาติมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย มหาวิทยาลัยอัสสัมชัญ มหาวิทยาลัยวลัยลักษณ์ มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏนครราชสีมา และมหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์

Bangkok, 25 September 2012 – The Delegation of the European Union to Thailand together with Khon Kaen University will be hosting the 8th European Union Thailand National Inter-varsity Debate Championship, the biggest English language debate tournament amongst university and high school students in Thailand. The Grand Final Round of debates will be held on Tuesday 16 October from 14.00h to 16.30h at Khon Kaen University. The general public and media are invited to attend the competition.
This year’s championship distinguishes itself from its seven predecing competitions in two ways. Firstly, the tournament takes place under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Secondly, after having been hosted by Thammasat and Mahidol universities in previous years, this year’s tournament final is held outside of Bangkok for the first time, at Khon Kaen University.
Through its support for the debate competition, the European Union provides young Thai citizens a forum to practise a culture of critical analysis and intellectual debate in Thailand while promoting awareness and understanding of the European Union and its policy priorities. At this year’s championship, Thai students will propose the topics for debate from a range of EU’s priority policies in politics & democracy, finance & economics, the environment, science & technology, gender & sexuality, discrimination & differences, human rights & laws, to international relations. The topic to be debated at the Grand Final this year will be chosen from the students’ proposals to endorse that this activity is driven and participated by students themselves.
Over the past seven years, the European Union Thailand National Inter-varsity Debate Championship has developed into the largest English language inter-varsity debate contest in Thailand, with approximately 300 students from all regions of Thailand joining this competition, a student–led initiative and collaboration amongst English language debate societies in Thailand. Prominent Thai universities cooperating and participating include Assumption University, Chulalongkorn University, Khon Kaen University, Mahidol University International College, Nakhon Ratchasima Ratjabhat University, Prince of Songkla University, Thammasat University and Walailak University.
